Spring Startups

Spring brings the most exciting season in the landscaping industry, with warmer weather and longer days, it is the perfect time to get your landscape looking stellar. One of the main ingredients to a happy landscape is the right amount of irrigation. Spring start ups provide us a chance to review and renovate our current irrigation systems. With all the great new technology available, it is important to do your research before installing any new products. Smart controllers are capable of automatically adjusting your irrigation schedule based on site specific needs. It requires additional initial investment, but can provide a great return on investment with the water savings which equals real $$$ savings! Hunter and Rainbird make some great user friendly models.

So where do you start on an irrigation spring assessment? You will want to start at your irrigation controller and run through every station making sure they all still work with the controller. Next, you will be inspecting each valve for damage. Be sure to check the connected lateral lines, drip tubing, bubblers and sprinklers. Look for obvious leaks but also pay attention to low water pressure it may be a sign of an underground leak that is not visible. Make sure if you have sprinklers they are adjusted properly as not to over-spray onto adjacent hardscapes.

Once you have located and repaired any leaks it’s time to program your controller. Water is still a precious resource, so this is the most important part. Don’t over water! Another great way to reduce your H2O usage is to reduce the number of days you irrigate and the duration of your run times. Most established turf areas only need 2-3 watering days per week with shrubs needing only 1-2 watering days per week. Remember, your landscape is a living, growing place! Monitor your plants, lawn, and soil often, to ensure you are not over watering or under watering.

There are many strategies to adjusting your controller. Example: Instead of watering your lawn for 30 minutes all at once, split it up into three 10-minute cycles, each separated by an hour. This will provide time for the water to soak into the ground and reduce run off.

Tips To Protect Your Landscape From Excessive Rain

The rainy season has returned. While the sun may be shining now, more spring showers are just around the corner. While plentiful rainfall is great news for a drought-recovering California, homeowners need to be weary. Excessive rain can wreak havoc on landscapes, causing expensive damage that could take weeks to repair and restore.

You’ve spent a lot of time and energy investing in your landscape and by extension, your property value. Don’t let your hard work get washed away with the next round of spring storms. After years of professional experience designing and maintaining landscapes to withstand California’s climate, we’ve compiled a list of ways you can help your landscape withstand heavy rainfall. Keep reading to learn how you can protect your landscape from excessive rain.

Make Sure Your Storm water Runoff Is Under Control

Not only is city storm water runoff one of the leading causes of residential flooding; it is also a major contributor of water resource pollution. Fortunately, there are several ways you can divert drainage.

One of the most common ways to control storm water runoff is to use swales. A swale is a depression within the landscape that redirects water drainage. While a swale doesn’t stop rainfall, it does help lead water to a drainage area, protecting your landscape from flooding. You can make your swale even more effective by adding pebbles, rocks, and deep rooted plants to the swale’s lowest point. This will help control the excess water’s speed to the drainage area.

Does a swale sound like too big of a landscape addition right now? Don’t worry, not all changes have to be big. Even a small change, like diverting your rain spouts can help control the water flow. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a local landscaping team to see what they recommend. It will be well worth the effort. After all, in addition to protecting you landscape, controlling your storm water runoff will also significantly lower your utility bill.

Avoid Walking On Water-Soaked Soil

Not only will trudging through a swampy lawn ruin your shoes, it can also damage your landscape. When you walk on a water-soaked area, your weight compacts the soil. This limits the amount of air pockets that exist in the soil, making it hard for plants to get the oxygen they need to stay healthy. Furthermore, when the spring showers finally end, your soil will dry and become hard. This will make it difficult to complete your summer landscaping plans.

Be Proactive With Landscape Maintenance

While you can’t control the weather, there are steps you can take to reduce the amount of damage inflicted on your landscape during the next surprise storm. If you haven’t already, it’s important that you create a maintenance routine for your landscape. During this time, you can inspect your landscape and eliminate potential problems before they even happen.

For example, you can prevent falling tree limbs from damaging your property by making sure your trees are pruned and parasite-free. Clearing debris and fallen leaves will make it harder for vegetative diseases to spread. Continue to make the effort to maintain your landscape on a regular basis and the next time it rains you can rest easy knowing your landscape is ready for excessive water.

Inspect And Reduce Impermeable Surfaces

One of the main culprits of backyard flooding is impermeable surfaces. Homeowners can greatly reduce this issue by inspecting their landscape the next time it rains. If you notice water cascading off of impermeable surfaces, like roofs, driveways, or pavement, take note.
Then discuss replacement options with your landscaping team. It’s possible to add features such as rain gardens to your landscape to minimize the amount of water that stays trapped above ground.

Keep Your Irrigation System Updated

If your irrigation system is five years or older, it’s time to have it inspected by a trustworthy landscaping company. With technology constantly being updated, there’s a possibility that a more cost effective system was invented. In fact, there are a number of irrigation upgrades currently available including:

  • Soil Monitoring Sensors
  • Rain Shut-Off Devices
  • Smart Controllers

These features make it easy for homeowners to monitor their landscape and detect problems the very instant they begin to occur. For example, rain shut-off devices can detect rain and temporarily shut off your irrigation system to prevent overwatering.

Smart controllers make it easy to decide how much and how often you should water your soil. In addition, smart controllers come with weather sensors that can measure a multitude of factors like humidity and precipitation to help you give your lawn the correct amount of water each week.

Top 5 Landscaping Mistakes To Avoid

Spring is approaching faster than you think. If you have a green thumb, you're probably itching to get your hands into some fresh soil and get your landscape ready for the growing season. After all, not only is a beautiful landscape great for entertaining, it can also increase your overall home value.

Unfortunately, even the gardeners with the greenest of thumbs can struggle to keep their landscape healthy and thriving. In the hustle and bustle of every day life it can become all to easy to forget your landscaping duties. Forget to water your yard too often and your lush, green lawn will wilt and wither away. Add the wrong plant to your backyard and you risk creating an infestation.

However, not all hope is lost. Local professional landscapers, like K&D Landscaping, Inc., want to see their community continue to grow and are happy to share some of their landscaping knowledge. By following such advice, you can create or maintain a healthier landscape.

Read on to learn about five yard landscaping mistakes you must avoid.

1.) Overwhelming Your Trees With Mulch

Mulch is a great way to control the soil temperature around your tree. It's also an efficient way to keep your trees moisturized. However, this only happens if mulch is applied correctly.

Far too often homeowners become overzealous and pile way too much mulch around their new trees. Unfortunately, mulch works best if it is applied loosely. Tightly packed mulch can actually suffocate your trees. It can also attract invasive insects and create rot.

So before you add that mulch, remember to follow all of the proper application techniques. Your trees will be much happier with the right amount of loosely applied mulch than buried under a crushing mountain of mulch.

2.) Building Near Trees

Speaking of trees, you might want to reassess where you plan to build your outdoor kitchen or in-law suite. If there are any large trees nearby, you could be facing a giant construction headache.

Don't feel discouraged if there are larger trees near your planned building zone. There are a few ways you can get around the problem. First, you could simply change your intended structure's location to avoid the trees.

However, if you have your heart set on your current location you can still build there. Just make sure that none of your construction doesn't touch any tree roots.

While avoiding trees may not seem that important at first it can make all the difference when the next storm hits. After all, you don't want to wake up after a particularly strong storm to discover a fallen tree through your roof.

3.) Planting The Wrong Plants

One common mistake many beginning gardeners make is selecting the wrong type of plant for their yard. While some plants to well in a particular climate, they can be invasive pests in others. The last thing you want is for your new plant to take over your landscape.

Luckily, you can avoid this headache by consulting a professional landscaper before you begin planting. You can also visit a local nursery to see if they have any handy planting guides available.

4.) Using Way Too Much Gravel

Drought resistant landscape are becoming very popular in landscape designs, especially in California. These types of landscapes incorporate landscaping elements like native plants and gravel to help homeowners conserve water and money, all while still having a beautiful landscape.

However, there is such a notion as too much of a good thing. If you add too much gravel to your landscape you can end up damaging most of your plants. When it comes to heat, gravel doesn't reflect it, it absorbs it. Adding too much can gravel can end up baking your plants.

In addition, gravel that gets into underlying soil can make it hard for nearby vegetation to absorb rainfall. This will also make it harder for you add new plants.

5.) Poor Landscape Design Planning

It can be tempting to dive right into a new landscaping design but you'll save yourself a lot of stress by taking the time to properly plan your landscape design. There are many factors you need to consider before finalizing your design, such as what plants will do best in your area's climate, what you want to use your landscape for, and more.

Make sure you take the time to research all of the important steps you need to ensure you create a landscape that is both beautiful and practical for your lifestyle.

4 Easy Ways To Keep Your Landscape Pest-Free

With dropping temperatures, you've probably noticed a decrease of pest activity in your landscape. However, spring is just around the corner. As the air gets warmer, pests will begin to find their way back into your lawn, garden, and foliage. After all, the yard is one of the first places homeowners notice they have a pest problem. Common outdoor pests include:

- Ants
- Aphids
- Carpenter Ants
- Earwigs
- Fleas
- Flies
- Grasshoppers
- Mosquitoes
- Slugs
- Snails
- Ticks
- Yellow Jackets

However, while all these pests can be harmful to your landscape, you can't just grab a gallon of pesticide and start spraying. A healthy landscape is full of helpful insects. Using harmful pesticide not only harms beneficial insects and animals, but it can also damage your landscape as well. Do yourself and your landscape a favor by doing your research before you start using any type of pest control methods.

Keep in mind, the best way to get rid of pests is by not having any in the first place. Pest prevention is one of the smartest things you can do to keep your landscape healthy without wearing yourself out. Thankfully, you can get a head start on pest control this winter season. Here's four easy ways to keep your landscape pest-free.

1.) Add Pest Repellent Plants To Your Landscape

Fight back against pests with the power of nature. One of the best ways you can naturally keep pests out of your garden is by adding plants that automatically resist or repel pests. For example, adding petunias to your landscape will help repel aphids. Adding lavender in your backyard will help keep out mosquitoes, flies, and moths during the summer. There are many options to choose from. If you need a little help choosing which plants to add to your landscape, reach out to your local nursery or landscaping company for some expert advice.

You can even take things a step further by planting specific pairs of plants together. For example, you can protect your vulnerable tomato plants by planting oregano and basil close by. Furthermore, you'll get the added bonus of having three ingredients that all complement each other in meals.

2.) Add Coffee Grounds To Your Garden

Not only do coffee grounds make soil nitrogen rich, they're also great for driving away pests that hate the smell or taste of coffee. If you've had slug problems in the past, you'll want to get some coffee grounds right away. Slugs can't stand coffee grounds. Sprinkle some within your garden and around its perimeter to keep those slimy invaders off of your vegetables and flowers.

If you're a daily coffee drinker, simply store your grounds in an air tight container until you have enough to mix into your garden soil. Not a big coffee fan yourself? No problem! Visit your local Starbucks to inquire about their leftover coffee grounds. Starbucks is well known for giving away their mounds of leftover coffee grounds to patrons who are in need of a little composting boost.

3.) Keep Up With Your Landscape Maintenance

Doing something as simple as keeping your grass short can do wonders for keeping pests like rodents away. Rodents are some of the worst pests your landscape can have. Not only do they eat all of your vegetables, but they also carry dangerous pathogens that can lead to serious illnesses. It's in your best interest to keep your yard as rodent-free as possible.

Like many living creatures, rodents require food and shelter to survive. There's nothing rodents love more than finding tall, unkempt grass to nest in. If you don't have time to mow your lawn, hire a professional landscaper to get the job done for you. After all, you don't want to make the costly mistake of waiting until it's too late to keep the rats away.

4.) Get Professional Landscaping Help

If you're struggling to keep pests out of your yard, it may be time to give the professionals a call. Local professional landscapers have the experience and knowledge needed to effectively create a system to keep pests of all sizes off of your property. This could mean installing a sturdy, yet ascetically pleasing, fence along your property line to keep out deer. Or, it could be something as easy as spraying environmentally-frienldy pest controls in your yard's problem area.

If you already have a landscape maintenance team, bring your pest concerns to their attention. Your landscapers will make it their priority to keep your landscape healthy and pest-free all year long.

If you live along the Central Coast or in Santa Cruz Country, reach out to K&D Landscaping, Inc. This reliable, family-owned landscaping company has been keeping their client's landscapes pest-free for years. If you're looking for expert help, give them a call at (831)278-8855.

Once your sprinkler system is installed, you can permanently check watering the lawn off your chore list.

Keep in mind, there's more to keeping your lawn healthy than just efficient watering. Lawns require new mulch, mowing, and weeding to stay healthy. If the thought of all that work is making your head spin, fear not! Many landscape companies offer residential landscape maintenance services. In addition to keeping your lawn healthy and green, your landscaping team will also keep the rest of your landscape in tip top shape.

3.) Upgrade Your Irrigation System

As mentioned earlier, maintaining a lush landscape requires consistent and effective watering. One of the easiest ways to ensure this happens is to install an irrigation system in your landscape. Save yourself time and money by having a professional install your irrigation system. Their expertise will ensure that your irrigation system is properly in place and won't cause any costly problems later down the road.

If you already have an irrigation system, make sure it is up to code. It may be time to upgrade your system if you notice any of these signs

- Your new lawn feature isn't draining properly.
- You just added a garden to your landscape.
- Your water bill is way too high.
- Patches of dead grass are appearing on your lawn.
- This year's new plants require a different watering routine than last year's plants.

With financial resources like rebates available, upgrading your irrigation system doesn't have to be costly. Also, you'll be able to see the savings add up as your water bill gets smaller and smaller.

4.) Spend More Time Enjoying Your Landscape

Life is very hectic these days. It's so easy to get caught up in your daily work tasks or family matters. Before you know it, another year has come and gone. Make 2018 the year you make time for yourself and enjoy the full benefits of your landscape. Take the time to stop and smell the roses, literally.

Your landscape is gorgeous and you deserve some well-earned "me time" where you can just relax and soak in the beauty that surrounds you in your own backyard. Take advantage of your awesome outdoor kitchen to host an amazing dinner party. Love to garden or cook? Put your green thumb to use and plant herbs and garden vegetables within your arbors so that you can enjoy a constant supply of fresh cooking ingredients.

As you can see, when it comes to enjoying the full benefits of your landscape, the possibilities are endless. In fact, studies show that people are often happier after spending just 15 minutes in nature. So do yourself a favor and carve out some free time in your busy schedule to spend more time outside the house. Have fun listening to the birds sing while you admire the flowers and you sip your morning coffee.

Commit To Your Landscape Resolutions

Did you know that about 40% of resolutions fail after just one month? One of the most common causes for resolution failures is lack of a clear goal. Work with your landscaper to figure out the best way you can keep your 2018 landscape resolutions. Your landscape will thank you!

Top Landscape Mistakes Homeowners Make Every Winter

When winter rolls around many homeowners think they are off the hook for landscape maintenance for the rest of the year. However, this couldn't be further than the truth. Residential landscapes require consistent maintenance. Neglecting your yard for even a week can result in damage that will take time and effort to repair.

If you want to keep your landscape looking lush and beautiful all year long you're going to have to put in effort all year long. Or, you can hire an exceptional landscaping team to do the hard work of landscape maintenance for you. Either way, you need to make sure your landscape is getting the attention it needs to remain healthy throughout the winter.

It's crucial you avoid making any costly landscaping mistakes that could damage your landscape design. Avoid making these top landscape mistakes homeowners make every winter and you'll have the nicest yard in the neighborhood when spring returns.

Neglecting To Water Plants

One of the worst things you can do for your landscape is stop watering your plants. A lush green lawn can rapidly loose its luster if you stop watering it for even just a few days. Your fruit trees, hedges, and shrubbery will still need to be consistently watered, even in winter.

Unless the weather is at freezing temperatures, you should make sure your plants are getting the a healthy amount of water. This will help prevent the damaging effects of dehydration and prevent diseases from developing and spreading among your plants.

Using The Wrong Fertilizer

Just because the weather's getting colder doesn't mean your landscape vegetation is going to stop growing. As the temperature begins to drop, ensure your landscape is getting the nutrients it needs by giving it the right fertilizer. If your yard and plants do not get the proper fertilizer they need, they will start to wither and, in some cases, succumb to frost burns.

Minimize the use of fertilizers that take a long time to dissolve, like granular fertilizers, to help your plants continue to grow in winter. For maximum results, you can use a spray applicator to gently apply the correct fertilizer to your landscape.

Using Weed Killer In Winter

Shrubbery and grass won't be the only thing growing in winter. Weeds, an annoyance for all landscapers and gardeners, will still be finding ways to sneak into your manicured landscape. It may be tempting to blast any weeds you find with powerful, chemical weed killer, but do your best to avoid this temptation. Many weed killers contain ingredients that are harmful for many plants as well as the environment.

Many landscaping experts recommend only using weed killer that doesn't harm plants or the environment, like Whey2Grow. The experts also advise to only use weed killer if winter temperatures are above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. If it's any colder, it is better to wait until warmer weather returns before you bring the weed killer out.

Deciding To Not Rake

Yes, raking isn't fun even when the weather is pleasant. However, as tempting as it may be to skip this chore, you shouldn't neglect your raking duties. After all, you don't want fungus or mold to grow underneath those leaves do you?

Ignoring Pest Problems

Don't make the mistake of assuming the winter frost will kill any pests lurking around in your garden. You need to take action if you notice any of these pest warning signs:

  • Worms or pests inside any crops you harvest
  • Holes in crops or foliage
  • Wilting stems and leaves
  • Eggs attached to the bottom of leaves
  • Bite marks on leaves or soft crops
  • Pest tracks and snail trails

Failing to take the proper steps to eradicate pests from your garden, lawn, or plants can result in a total landscape infestation. Save yourself time and money by in the long run by immediately taking action the moment you notice signs of pests. Reach out to your local landscaping experts to learn more about how to best tackle the pests you find in your landscape.

Keep In Mind

Ensure your landscape survives the winter and flourish in the springtime by avoiding the costly mistakes mentioned above. Is Your Landscape Winter-Ready?

When the temperatures start getting low, it means that winter is close. As soon as there are indications that fall is coming to a close, you should put on your gloves and get the appropriate tools to start winterizing your landscape. After, all, you do not want snow to mess up all your hard work.

Preparing in advance will lessen the landscaping work required in spring too. So, when you take note of the drop in temperatures, make a point of covering your garden. Below are some useful tips on how to prepare your landscape for winter.

Assess your Garden

Before embarking on any preparations, find out which plants thrived well and those that didn’t during the previous season. Fall is the fitting time of year to either move or get rid of plants that are not looking healthy. It is also the time to plant bare root shrubs, trees, and plant bulbs.

Also, go to your yard and check if it is missing fall bloom. In case it is, go ahead and plant some late flowering plants.

Landscape Clean-up

First, get rid of all the weeds from your garden. If your trees have any diseased leaves, remove them too. Refrain from pruning your plants during fall as it will only encourage new growth when winter is on its way. Dig up non-hardy bulbs and let them dry under the sun before storing them in a cool and dry place.

Dig up a compost pit where you should dispose dried cuttings and leaves. These will make very good manure for the next season. Do not throw in any diseased leaves as they will give you more problems in your next crop.

Aerate the Soil

If you aerate the soil while the vegetation is still green, your crops will be full of vitality in spring. Let the soil get some breathing space as it gets into the cold season. During fall and summer, break up hard and dry soil to allow water and nutrients to seep through to the roots. In the dry winter period, water your lawn by hand to encourage the grass to green-up.

Winter tends to be harsh on trees and shrubs, which is why you should water them adequately before the cold weather starts.

Spread Mulch

Go for fall mulching as opposed to spring mulching as it will help protect the plant roots while retaining moisture during winter. Put at least 2 to3 inches of fresh mulch around all your trees and shrubs. To avoid using mulch that is full of disease pores, buy the hardwood shredded type. Usually, dump mulch is made from trees that died from diseases, and they tend to carry illnesses like leaf spot. To avoid getting diseased plants, keep away from such cheap mulch.

Mulch will protect your plants from erratic temperature changes in the soil. Protecting plants from the intense cold will help stop soil erosion. However, do not mulch too early as it will encourage diseases and pests; wait until the first frost when the ground starts freezing.

Move plants that are growing in containers indoors. If they happen to be too heavy to carry, cover the containers with a wrap and mulch the soil adequately.

Wrap Delicate Shrub

When snow becomes strong and is accompanied by high winds, your treasured shrubs can get split. If you value them, it is prudent to shield your landscape from these winter elements. You can do this in these ways:

  • Cover small plants with overturned plastic pots
  • Wrap small shrubs in burlap
  • Encircle delicate trees with shredded leaves

Cut Back Perennials

Most perennials require cutting back to around 6-8 inches above the ground. However, some will still look great during the cold season. If you cannot decide whether to cut or not, just leave them and see whether you will want to have them when the next winter arrives. Also, some perennial plant seed heads serve as a source of food for birds during the winter season. Most of these perennials look untidy during the cold season and, therefore, you should eliminate them if you wish for a well-manicured garden.

Time to Fertilize Trees

As the temperatures go down, soils tend to cool down too, becoming uniformly moist. Trees and shrubs also start growing in the fall, which makes this the perfect season to fertilize trees. Fertilizing in fall will bring up the productivity of soil through increased nutrients and encouraged root growth. Such trees are more likely to survive the winter with fewer dead branches. They will also multiply in spring.

Ensure You Blow Out

Ensure you winterize your sprinkler system before winter comes, and freezing starts. This will reduce the costs associated with repairs. Let professionals remove all the water from your home system using compressed air. This will prevent any chance of freezing and damage that occurs in the winter.

Cover the backflow preventer properly to protect from any hard freezes that could burst pipes and flood your basement. Always consult a landscaping expert if you don’t know what to do.

With the above tips, your landscape will remain lush, green, and healthy in winter and you will be ready to welcome the spring with endless bloom.

How To Choose the Right Plants for Your Outdoor Kitchen

landscape soil preparation

No outdoor kitchen is complete without beautiful landscaping that complements the features of the hardscape and home. One of the most satisfying aspects of cooking outdoors is the ability to have edible kitchen essentials at the chef’s fingertips. Having fresh herbs, vegetables, and fruits within reach gives the chef more time to focus on the fun, creative sides of cooking. Adding plants with bold color, sweet fragrance and practical function will make your outdoor kitchen the ideal entertainment space of your neighborhood.

Where’s the Sun?

First, before you start planning the perfect outdoor kitchen garden, consider the position of the sun. Will your designated planting space get the exact amount of sunlight it needs? Knowing how much sun the area will get can help you choose the right plants for your outdoor kitchen.

If the planting area receives direct sunlight much of the day, consider creating shade with the use of plants. However, if the kitchen is located in a shady area, more attention must be paid to the type of plants that can be successfully grown. In general, edible plants require at least six hours of sun per day. This makes a sunny location an key need for a successful kitchen garden.

In addition to choosing the right amount of sun, consider how often you want your plants to access the sun. First, think do you want to plant your plants directly into the ground? Second, would it be easier if you could move your plants into the best position everyday? Finally, determine what is the best solution for you and your plants. By designing an arrangement of planters and pots, you can move your plants to areas with the best amount of sunlight. Fortunately, this allows you to take advantage of the sun’s warmth in any season.

Creating Desirable Views and Privacy

Thoughtful plantings are the best way to enhance beautiful views or create privacy around the perimeter of your outdoor kitchen and seating area. A narrow space can be screened with vertical vines. Small trees and bushes offer structure and the opportunity to define specific views. It is essential to be aware of how the garden will mature to create a landscape that will not become overgrown or require extensive management. For the best result, choose plants that are proportional to the garden’s size and offer a professional, finished look. In addition, reach out to your local landscaping company for professional maintenance help.

Structure the Landscape with Fruiting Plants

Fruit grows on many types and sizes of plants, including trees, bushes and vines. Selecting a wide variety of different orchard fruits gives you the opportunity to build texture and structure within your kitchen garden landscape. Apples, pears, citrus and cherries are all available in dwarf tree varieties for container planting and easy harvesting. Blueberry bushes can produce fruit during much of the season. In addition to tasty fruit, you'll also get to enjoy the bushes' beautiful leaves when they change in autumn. Vine fruits such as grapes or kiwi are ideal for narrow spaces along a wall or trellis. They are also a wonderful option for small urban gardens.

The Charm of Veggies and Greens

Growing veggies and greens near the outdoor kitchen is a practical way to enjoy farm-to-table meals. Kale and chard are colorful, healthy greens. Also, they can be easily grown in either pots or landscape beds. Lettuces and mustard greens prefer partial shade and cool weather; many of these salad fixings can be grown year round and thrive in shady areas. Garlic and onions are the foundation for any home-cooked meal. These root crops can easily be tucked into pots or small corners of the landscape. Edible gardens can be creative and unique; their design is only limited by the homeowner’s imagination.

Fresh Cooking with Culinary Herbs

Herbs are easily grown and require very little maintenance. The joy of cooking with fresh herbs makes them an essential addition to any outdoor garden. Garnish evening cocktails with fresh mint or rosemary. Use sage and basil to flavor grilled meat. The possibilities are endless when you have a garden of spices and herbs right at your fingertips.

Surrounding the cooking space with herbs that are within easy reach gives the chef a variety of fresh options for creative cooking.
