Marina VA Hospital Project
The VA project took place over the course of 3 years. There were many challenges and in the end, it came out amazing. Some of the features of this project include the following:
Relocate (10) Mature Cypress Trees
Located in the proposed building footprint, some over 30’ tall. The operation included building boxes around each tree, some 15’x15’ in size and moving them on site with an 80-ton crane. Started with 30% survival chance from the arborist; we achieved 80% survival, losing only 2 of the 10 trees.
2-Wire Irrigation System
Smart system using brand new technology with on-site weather station for self-adjusting controls based on soil moisture & site conditions. 100% drip irrigation with no overhead sprays. Installed over 100,000 square feet of landscape utilizing minimal water.
Granite Boulder Installation
Over 100 large granite boulders installed in landscaped areas surrounding the building. This aesthetic approach met and surpassed security requirements for the government facility, all placed without damage to freshly poured concrete.
Native Planting
Project consisted of 100% native and drought-tolerant planting — a significant achievement for a project of this scale. While many landscapes are moving to native plants, maintaining complete drought tolerance across the entire site was a major engineering feat.
Bio-Retention Soil Import
Imported thousands of tons of bio-retention soil installed in parking lot islands. The entire site drains into these bio-retention areas, which filter stormwater and replenish aquifers.
Industry Recognition
Entered into California Landscape Contractors Association Central Coast Chapter Awards show and won 1st place in our division.
