Los Gatos Outdoor Living Retreat

Big Scope, Big Trust, and Details Worth Getting Right
This Los Gatos backyard was the kind of project that only works when the vision is big, the trust is real, and every trade understands how their piece affects the final space. The clients brought a big outdoor vision, the subcontractors brought specialized expertise, and K&D helped keep the landscape scope, site details, utilities, grades, drainage, and finished experience connected.
K&D supported a full-property transformation that included a pool renovation, pavilion installation, outdoor kitchen, Techo-Bloc pool deck and patio, concrete retaining walls and stairs, utilities for nearly every element, artificial lawn, open-air pergolas, and a pickleball court.
With a $750K–$900K project scope including the pool, this was a layered residential build with a lot to coordinate. K&D’s role was to help protect the big picture while solving the field details that made the finished backyard feel fun, functional, personal, and complete.
The Scope
K&D helped bring together a wide range of outdoor living elements, including:
● Pool renovation support
● Pavilion installation
● Outdoor kitchen installation
● Large pool deck and patio by Techo-Bloc
● Concrete retaining walls and stairs
● Utility coordination for electrical, gas, sewer, internet, and water
● Pickleball court
● Open-air pergolas
● Artificial lawn
● Planting, layout, drainage, and finish details

The Challenge
This project had no shortage of people, trades, utilities, and site details to coordinate.
The grades were difficult. The drainage needed real attention. And with the pool renovation, pavilion, outdoor kitchen, pickleball court, pergolas, retaining walls, stairs, artificial lawn, and Techo-Bloc patio all happening across the same property, every decision had to connect back to the bigger plan.
K&D worked alongside the subcontractors and project team to keep the landscape details organized, solve problems as they came up, and help make the finished space feel seamless instead of stitched together.
The K&D Approach
K&D's role was to help keep the whole backyard working as one project, not a collection of separate features. That meant respecting the specialized work happening around the property while staying close to the landscape details that could make or break the finished space.
The team focused on:
-
Moving water the right way across difficult grades
-
Routing utilities before the finished surfaces went in
-
Sequencing subcontractors so the work did not compete with itself
-
Connecting the pool, pavilion, kitchen, patios, court, and lawn into one usable backyard
-
Making field decisions with the final experience in mind
This was the kind of project where Pay Attention To The Details really mattered. So did Find A Way To Overcome, Make Quality Personal, and Make It Happen.
The Result
The finished space feels like the kind of backyard people do not want to leave.
There is room to swim, cook, lounge, eat, gather, play pickleball, and move through the property without any part of it feeling like an afterthought. The pool, pavilion, kitchen, patios, pergolas, court, and lawn all work together as one outdoor retreat.
For K&D, that was the win: not just building a beautiful space, but helping create a backyard that feels easy to enjoy, personal to the family, and worthy of the vision the clients trusted the team to bring to life.
